THE Ultra Fuel

Fuel for the efforts that run past three hours.

Perpetuem is built for the long stuff, where a gel every twenty minutes stops being practical and your stomach starts asking questions. It delivers steady energy hour after hour, spares muscle and burns fat.

Best for

  • Century rides, long brevets and back to back training days
  • Marathon and ultra distance running
  • Full and half distance triathlon
  • Any session long enough that you need calories, not just electrolytes

Powder or Solids?

Same fuel, two formats, and they genuinely suit different people. We would rather tell you the trade-off than pretend there isn't one.

  • Powder mixes into your bottle. More flavor choice, and it goes down easily once mixed. It does need preparing before you leave, and mixing a thick bottle mid ride is awkward.
  • Solids are tablets you chew. Nothing to prepare, nothing to carry but the tablets, and they survive heat and hours in a pocket. The texture is chalkier than a gel or a drink, which some people mind and others do not.

Good to know

  • 2.0 Caffe Latte contains 30mg of caffeine per serving. The other flavors are caffeine free.
  • Mix it before you set off rather than at the roadside.

Available in single serving, 12 count box and 32 servings. Flavors: 2.0 Caffe Latte, 2.0 Chocolate, 2.0 Orange and 2.0 Strawberry.

The rest of the session

Endurolytes Fizz or HEED alongside for hydration, and Recoverite afterwards.

SIZE: 32 SERVINGS
FLAVOR: 2.0 Caffe Latte
BENEFITS

Perpetuem satisfies your body’s energy requirements when exercise extends beyond three hours. Its unique blend and precise ratios of complex carbohydrates, protein, healthy fat, and key support nutrients allow you to stay strong and steady from start to finish.

Thoroughly tested and proven in the world’s toughest events since 2002, Perpetuem has been massively improved by replacing the corn maltodextrin with tapioca maltodextrin. The names may be similar, but these two carbohydrates are worlds apart! With far less processing, no GMO content, lower amounts of sodium and higher amounts of naturally occurring potassium, a more-alkaline pH, and lower mono and disaccharide content/much higher percentage of polysaccharide content (courtesy of its lower Dextrose Equivalent), tapioca is the sugar and corn alternative we’ve been wanting to bring to you for years is finally here!

Whether you’ve been using Perpetuem for 20 years or are thinking of trying it for the first time, you are going to be impressed with this 2.0 version, guaranteed!

Caffé Latte flavor contains 30 mg of caffeine per serving.

Classic Perpetuem - The original fan favorite, corn based formula introduced in 2002.

2.0 Perpetuem - Updated with tapioca maltodextrin derived from cassava, a far superior energy source and it’s Paleo friendly.

HOW TO USE

1–2 scoops per hour as a primary source of calories as follows:

One Hour Bottle

Add 1–2 scoops to 12-20 oz (355 – 591 ml) of water.

This option is most effective when resupply is accessible, such as on-lap courses or when using a follow vehicle. Otherwise, mix bottles when refueling. Carry extra servings of dry powder and blend more as needed.

Multi-Hour Bottle

Mix 2–8 scoops in a water bottle. Take small sips every 15– 20 minutes. Augment with additional water and electrolytes from separate sources to meet your hydration and electrolyte needs.

Paste

Gradually add water to 2–4 scoops of Perpetuem 2.0 to create a thick, paste-like consistency. Fill Hammer Flask or other container with the concentrate.

Each flask can generally supply you with 2–3 hours of fuel. Augment with additional water and electrolytes from separate sources as needed.

PRO TIPS

Watch the video: Hammer Under 3 Hours and Over 3 Hours

For exercise lasting three hours or more, use from the outset.

Perpetuem 2.0 contains no artificial preservatives. To avoid spoilage, do not premix or leave unrefrigerated, especially in warm weather.

5 Secrets of Success

How To Fuel Guides

INGREDIENT BREAKDOWN

2.0 = TAPIOCA Maltodextrin – Non-GMO and unsprayed, tapioca is the king of complex carbs! Far less processed, guaranteed no GMO content, lower mono and disaccharide content/much higher percentage of polysaccharide content (courtesy of its lower Dextrose Equivalent), less sodium content, and even closer to the desired neutral pH, tapioca is the sugar and corn alternative we’ve been wanting to bring to you for years is finally here!

Classic = Corn Maltodextrin – A high-glycemic index (GI) complex carbohydrate, ideal for providing fast-acting, long-lasting energy during exercise and for replenishing the body’s energy (glycogen) stores after exercise.

Isolated Soy Protein – A dry powder food ingredient that has been separated or isolated from the other components of the soybean, making it 90 to 95 percent protein, and nearly carbohydrate- and fat-free.

Soy Lecithin – The extract from soybean oil, lecithin is an easily digestible source of healthful fat. This helps create a feeling of satiety and also supports the body’s natural fat-burning capabilities.

Sodium (Tribasic) Phosphate – This compound enhances the functioning of all three of the body’s ATP-producing energy systems—the short-term ATP-CP system, the medium-term lactic acid system, and the long-term oxygen/aerobic system.

A primary benefit of sodium (tribasic) phosphate is its ability to buffer blood acidity and help maintain a more ideal acid-alkaline balance by neutralizing excess hydrogen ions within the muscle cell. Effectively buffering lactic acid extends energy production within this system. This nutrient also increases 2,3 diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG). This compound, found in red blood cells helps release oxygen from hemoglobin into the muscle cells. An increase in 2,3-DPG will improve the availability of oxygen to working muscles during exercise.

L-Carnosine – This dipeptide (a combination of two amino acids) L-carnosine is a potent lactic acid buffer. It also offers antioxidant support.

L-Carnitine Tartrate – L-Carnitine Tartrate is a compound containing L-carnitine chelated (“bonded”) to L-tartrate, which is a salt of tartaric acid. L-carnitine is the key nutrient involved in the shuttling of fatty acids into the cell for energy production. Tartrate is a potent antioxidant.

Choline Bitartrate - A type of B-complex vitamin that helps with efficient use of body fat stores as energy. Choline bitartrate also supports enhanced cognition, learning, and memory.

Stevia – A natural, calorie-free sweeter derived from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a plant native to Central and South America. It does not affect blood sugar levels or contribute to tooth decay like sugar does.

Chromium Polynicotinate – This trace mineral helps regulate blood sugar and plays a vital role in energy production.

Energy Smart® (Grape Juice, Rice Dextrin) – This all-natural, low-sugar sweetener plays an important role in Hammer Gel’s delicious flavor while contributing minimally to the overall carbohydrate content. Energy Smart® is certified non-GMO, gluten-free, and allergen-free.

A must fuel for anything over 3 hours!

I have been a sponsored athlete for almost 20 years and Perpetuem continues to be a crucial part of my nutrition. I use it almost every hard day, or ride over 3-hours. I cannot eat solid foods on days I go hard or long so Perpetuem provides me with the nutrients I need on a continuous basis for all these types of rides.
I recently won LOTOJA, a 200-mile race, beating out girls 20 years younger. (I am a 52-year-old female racer.) Part of my arsenal of nutrition was Perpetuem. It set me up for the final sprint to the finish. I literally did not suffer nutritionally. I was prepared and the nutrition supplementation I got from HAMMER was a major part of this success because I don't care how physically prepared you are, if you do not prepare appropriately on race day you will not get the results you want. I know, and the reason I continue and will continue to use HAMMER products.

The Right Stuff

This was my third batch of Perpetuum, but my first latte. Definitely my go-to endurance fuel, most recently for a solo 49mi, 8'000ft, 11hr peak-bagging mission. The sweetness and flavor are mild enough that I can keep drinking it all day without getting sick of it. I never feel full, but don't get hungry and won't bonk as long as I keep drinking it. My recent adventure was cold and wet, so I had to make it stronger since I didn't need as much liquid for this effort. I started the day with latte and finished with orange - flavor mixing in the same containers wasn't a problem.
One warning - make sure you thoroughly clean any container you use - the stuff that grows in your bottle thrives goes wild for it too!

Perpetuem 2.0 as primary fuel for Badwater 135

When running ultras from 100K to 200 miles, I often forget exactly when to fuel and fall behind on gel intake. Using Perpetuem has prevented me from bonking in the later miles when blood glycogen is more depleted. At Badwater 135, from Death Valley, CA to Lone Pine, CA, I alternated flasks of Perpetuem 2.0 as my primary fuel and Hammer Fizz for electrolytes. I would supplement with gels and a few Raw Energy Bars but noticed I often went several hours without additional calories. The Perpetuem and my plan of MCPH (Minimum Calories/Hour) kept me running the entirety of the event and finishing very strong. Perpetuem was very tolerable, even in 125*F. I had zero nausea, zero vomiting, and zero bonk.

A product that actually tastes good

I absolutely can not stomach products that use maltodextrin. It just tastes horrible. So when I got a packet of the 2.0 chocolate product in a sample packet, I warily decided to try it since it had a different type of ingredient with the thought I could chuck it if it also turned my stomach. I was incredibly surprised when not only did it taste good without that particular maltodextrin flavor, but the chocolate flavor tasted good. I put one packet in a 21 oz bottle of water. It doesn't taste like you're drinking Chocolate Quik or something but more like a light cocoa drink made with water rather than milk. I admittedly have only used the product this once but was surprised and pleased enough that I'm writing this review and will order a bucket of the stuff for myself. Would recommend. My two cents.

Perpetuem kept me pedaling for 24 hours!

This past weekend I raced the Psycho 48, the North American 24 Hour Championships. I competed in the 24 Hour Non-drafting category and was able to log 303.3 miles, finishing 3rd in class, 10th overall while fueling with Perpetuem (closely following the usage guides) and a few Hammer gels with caffeine late in the race for a little pick-me-up. I've used Heed with great success in gravel racing but for this race I needed something different due to the length of the race. Over the course of the 24 hours we dealt with some brutal winds and cold temps at night and I'm 100% convinced that my old fueling strategies never would have kept me going. I used the strawberry flavor, which was mild enough I never got tired of it and I never experienced any GI issues. After the race I was able to preach to all my friends who didn't use Perpetuem that they should have listened to me. And for the first time ever, on the long drive home (8+ hours) after a tough race I didn't get muscle cramps or the dreaded dead/heavy legs.

Performs just as described. Will def buy again

Got the caffe latte flavor and used it in a half IM this last weekend. It really helped me meet my caloric needs during the ride. I mixed it very thick and froze it the night before so it was nice and cold for the ride. Worked out perfectly.

The only negative comment I have is that unlike some of the fruit flavors, caffe latte is….not nearly as awesome when it’s warm. I gotta freeze it beforehand so it stays fairly cold during my rides.

UPDATE: ******* up my first submission so I’m posting again. I’ve since used Perpetuem in a full Ironman and remain happy with the product. I’m no expert and it’s probably not related but I don’t seem to get dead legs and post event soreness nearly as much when I use the product. Maybe it’s not related but I’m not going to mess with something that is working.

I remember getting the container and wondering how I’ll ever use the giant tub of the stuff. Well…I’m about out and will be ordering another batch to use in an upcoming 50k trail run.
