BY HAMMER NUTRITION PHILIPPINES
Christmas in the Philippines means lechon, pork barbecue, roast beef, alimango, sugpo, pancit, spaghetti and fruit salad, often all on the same table. For many athletes it's also the off-season: less training, more eating, from December well into January. You can enjoy the feast and still stay on track. Here's where two Hammer supplements fit in.
PHYTOLEAN FOR THE STARCHY DISHES
Phytolean is built on white kidney bean extract, which reduces the activity of alpha-amylase, the enzyme that breaks down starch.
- When: just before, during or right after a high-starch meal: rice, pancit, spaghetti, bread.
- How much: 2 to 3 capsules.
CHITOLEAN FOR THE RICH, FATTY DISHES
ChitoLean is derived from shellfish. Do not use it if you have a shellfish allergy.
ChitoLean is a chitosan complex with N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine and vitamin C. Chitosan binds with dietary fat, and vitamin C helps activate it.
- When: just before or during higher-fat meals: lechon, roast beef, pork barbecue, and alimango or sugpo prepared with butter or rich sauces.
- How much: 2 to 3 capsules, with at least 240 ml of water.
CAN I TAKE BOTH?
Yes. Phytolean works mainly on starch and ChitoLean on fat, so they can be taken together at the same meal. Neither is meant for every day; save them for the big meals.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Don't take Phytolean with your post-exercise Recoverite® or recovery meal. That's when you want those carbohydrates.
- Leave at least 4 hours between ChitoLean and healthy fats, fat-soluble vitamins or medication.
- If you take medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using ChitoLean.
- ChitoLean is derived from shellfish. Don't use it if you have a shellfish allergy.
PRO TIP
Keep moving through the holidays, even if training is lighter, and fill half your plate with vegetables before the lechon.
